Diversity Alliance Moderator Professor Paula KaldisAssistant Dean & Professor of Law 978.681.0800 X117pota@mslaw.edu The Diversity Alliance’s mission is to promote through outreach and education a positive, safe, and welcoming environment for members of the LGBTQ+ community. The Alliance seeks to instill tolerance, to value diversity and to demonstrate the inherent worth of all people. Additionally, the Alliance seeks to expand our understanding of the unique contributions each individual makes regarding the issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community within MSL and beyond. In the past the Diversity Alliance has hosted speakers such as Attorney General Bureau Chief Maura Healey on The Defense Of Marriage Act (DOMA), John Ward, founder of Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) and Gary Buseck, GLAD’s legal director. Diversity Alliance members attended the historic same sex marriage case decided by the Vermont Supreme Court, Baker v. Vermont. Faculty advisor Paula Kaldis raised thousands of dollars for the care of AIDS victims in the Boston to New York AIDS rides. The Diversity Alliance also sponsored an Anti-Bullying workshop at MSLAW, receiving a Governor’s Citation for raising awareness and preventing bullying in the Co MSLAW’s Diversity Alliance, BLSA, and Student Bar Association also sponsor an Intersectionality Panel. Prior to the pandemic, the Intersectionality Panel was focused on gender, race, sexual orientation and the legal field, with a focus on Assistant Attorney General April English, who moderated in 2019. Panelists included Hon. Pamela Dashiel, First Justice South Boston Court; Mason Dunn, LGBTQ+ activist and attorney; and Douglas Martin, former President of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association and MSLAW Trustee.
